» James Smith | Chairman

Former member of the Bahamas’ Senate and Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance. Widely acknowledged as a leading expert on monetary policies and financial services, he has served as the country’s ambassador for Trade in the Office of the Prime Minister the Governor of the Central Bank of The Bahamas for 10 years; and Chairman of the Negotiating Group on Services in the Free Trade Areas of the Americas (FTAA) process. Mr. Smith has served as Chairman of the Bahamas Maritime Authority, The Paradise Island Bridge Company and The Bahamas Development Bank. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of many public and private companies including the Bahamas Stock Exchange.

 

Principal of CFAL, a registered investment advisor. He is a Director of Dolphin Capital Management Limited, Global Life Assurance Limited and Colina Insurance Company Limited. He is a past Director of the National Insurance Board of the Bahamas, past president of the Bahamas Society of Financial Analysts and a former member of the Securities Market Task Force. He is a chartered Financial Analysts and has completed levels I, II and III of the Chartered Market Technicians Examinations.

 
» Sean K. Longley | Vice President, Business Development/Client Relations

Sean has more than 15 years’ experience in the financial services industry, holding progressively senior management positions in the Nassau office of a Big Four global accounting firm and a European based private bank. In his current position at CFAL, Sean is responsible for developing, building and maintaining relationships with clients. Sean was previously responsible for the Financial Control, Pension Administration, Operations and Human Resources of the company. He also works closely with Companies in the design, structure and implementation of pension plans. He has extensive experience in the management and administration of several of the largest and most complex pension plans in The Bahamas.

Sean holds a Bachelors degree in Accounting from Norfolk State University, Norfolk Virginia graduating Magna Cum Laude. He is a member of the Georgia State Board of Accountancy, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants. Sean is a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

 
» Pamela Q. Musgrove | Vice President of Investments

Responsible for the day to day management of the investment management accounts is Pamela Q. Musgrove, now Vice President of Investments. Pamela also oversees company analysis and research. Pamela joined CFAL in July 1999, and has over 12 years experience in securities administration and trading, portfolio accounting, research and portfolio management.

She earned her Bachelor Administration with Honours, concentration in finance, from Acadia University, Nova Scotia, Canada. She is also a Chartered Financial Analysts. Her professional affiliations include Director of the CFA Society of The Bahamas and the International Society of Financial Analysts.

 
» Sophia P. Thurston | Vice President, Pension Administration/Operations

New to the company is Sophia P. Thurston, who joined CFAL in 2008 as Vice President, Pension Administration/Operations, bringing with her her 17 years of financial services experience. Currently, Sophia is responsible for day to day operations for back office and pension administration. Sophia earned her MBA at University of Phoenix, Arizona and her BBA at Acadia University, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Sophia is a member of the Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants. Sophia previously worked as an Operations Manager at a major private bank and has experience in Funds Transfer, Securities/Custody and Documentation. She has also held oversight of Fund Accounting, Investor Relations, Financial Services and Corporate Services. Sophia is a former Audit senior in the Nassau office of a Big Four global accounting firm.

 
» Tamara Evans | Assistant Vice President of Brokerage and Trading

Tamara Evans was promoted to Assistant Vice President of Brokerage and Trading. Tamara joined the company in September 2000 and has more than 8 years of experience in the financial services industry. She serves as the firm’s brokerage and trading liaison and assistant portfolio manager. During her tenure, Tamara served as brokerage administrator, portfolio assistant, trader, senior securities trader and currently assistant portfolio manager.

Tamara received her educational training at the College of the Bahamas and she has obtained her Series 7, BISX Registered Trader and SCB’s stock broker licenses. Prior to joining CFAL, she served in the accounting department of ColinaImperial Insurance Ltd.

 
» Chet Nevins | Senior Associate

As a Senior Associate with CFAL, Chet is the Manager of the Registrar & Transfer Agency Department, a member of the Corporate Advisory team and currently responsible for Marketing.  Chet has more than seven years experience in Corporate Services including corporate advisory, registrar & transfer, settlements, escrow and client disbursal services, as well as corporate finance and brokerage services.

He is also experienced in domestic investment management and brokerage services having served as portfolio manager for one of the largest domestic mutual funds.  As a member of the Corporate Advisory Team, Chet has worked on some of the most significant Bahamian IPO and Merger and Acquisition projects to help structure transactions, analyze companies, conduct due diligence, draft offering memorandums, ensure legal & regulatory offering compliance, and to successfully secure client financing.

Prior to working for CFAL he spent 10 years with a US fuel oil company where his responsibilities among others included hedging futures contracts on wet barrel positions.Chet received a Bachelor of Science in Management degree from the AB Freeman School of business at Tulane University with a concentration in Marketing & Finance.  He has qualified for the Series Seven, is a registered trader on the Bahamas International Securities Exchange and has successfully completed Level 1 in the CFA Program.
